Essay draft with an AI agent
An essay is a short piece of writing that develops your own position on a question and supports it with reasoned arguments and evidence.
Pupils write essays in language and literature lessons and for exam practice, and students write them in humanities and social science courses.
What it contains
- A title, or none for an exam essay
- An introduction that ends with a clear thesis
- Body paragraphs, each with one argument and concrete evidence
- A counterargument and response in an argumentative essay
- A conclusion that restates the thesis and draws the arguments together
- A short reference list only if sources are used
Typical structure
- Title
- Introduction and thesis
- Body paragraph 1
- Body paragraph 2
- Body paragraph 3 (and 4)
- Counterargument and response
- Conclusion
Length and format
A typical essay is about 800–1,200 words, or two to four pages. An exam essay, such as IELTS Writing Task 2, keeps to that exam's word count.
It is written as continuous prose without internal headings or lists, usually in Times New Roman 14 pt with 1.5 spacing and no title page. Your teacher may set a different length.

Questions and answers
Which essay types are supported?
Argumentative, reflective or personal, analytical, compare and contrast, and exam essays such as IELTS or UNT-style tasks.
Does the essay include sources?
Only when it uses facts, data or quotations. A personal essay without sources has no reference list.
Will the essay contain made-up quotes?
The AI agent is instructed not to invent facts or quotations or attribute words to real people who did not say them. Still, check every quotation yourself.
Can I write a reflective essay in the first person?
Yes. A reflective essay uses the first person and a more personal tone, while analytical ones stay academic.
